Rosedean Shetland Cattle

About us

Based on a 12 acre smallholding near Carnoustie, Angus, the Rosedean herd of Shetland cattle was established in 2010 with the purchase of two Shetland-bred dun and white heifers, Beadies Breeze and Beadies Blizzard.

Since then, up to and including 2021, twenty eight live calves have been born in the Rosedean herd – fourteen bulls and fourteen heifers.

We rarely keep bull calves entire – most are castrated and run on to produce grass fed beef at 28 months or so. Only two, Rosedean Valiant (2013) and Rosedean Viento (2013), have been sold entire for breeding. We have retained Blizzard’s bull calf, Rosedean Braw (born 11th October 2021) as a bull and he will be for sale at weaning in May 2022.

Although we mainly breed to produce breeding heifers and beef steers, we have regularly milked some of our cows by machine to produce milk and cheese for our own use.

We are always delighted to promote Shetland cattle and are happy to welcome prospective breeders to see our cattle, by arrangement.
